  • The Farley Report from Phoenix #124: 2-15-11

    Howdy,  Friends O'Farley,

Thanks to all of you who attended our District 28 Town Hall last Saturday. It really energizes me to be talking issues with constituents, and the group who came were really engaged in the conversation. It's a real honor to be representing all of you!

This week is Special, yet again. The Second Special Session of the year was called on Monday by Governor Brewer. Did she want us to enact a solution to save transplant patients' lives? Did she want us to finally balance the budget and solve our $871 million deficit for this fiscal year, and the $1.2 billion for next?

    Howdy,  Friends O'Farley,

We in Southern Arizona deserve some good news. Those of you who have been on this list since before the Farley Report existed will know that this is a really big deal:

Tucson's Modern Streetcar received our final "Finding of No Significant Impact" (FONSI) from the Federal Transit Administration last Thursday morning. That is the green light many of us have been working toward for the last ten years to build rail transit in Tucson.

    Howdy,  Friends O'Farley,

First, I want to wish a huge Happy 21st Birthday to Daniel Hernandez, my campaign manager who is now rightfully celebrated around the world as the humble hero who helped to save Gabby Giffords' life.

If you are watching the State of the Union tonight, you will see that Daniel is spending his birthday sitting in the First Lady's box during what will surely be another emotional event for all of us. Support continues to pour in from everywhere for Tucson as we continue to recover. Just this week I received a wonderful package of drawings from a Mormon Sunday-school class of five-year-olds in Mesa sending their love to all of us.

    Howdy,  Friends O'Farley,

I hope you are all doing well. I must confess it has been hard to re-enter into legislative life while the events of January 8 are still fresh. If you are having some trouble coping, please take advantage of some of the community-wide counseling being offered free of charge by the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona (CPSA).

    Howdy,  Friends O'Farley,

I have spent a lot of time talking to various media outlets about the recent horrific events that have changed us forever. Until now, I have not sat down to write about it.

Turns out, writing about it is pretty hard to do. For the last couple of hours I've tried to write this without success. I find myself drawn to reading all the stories of the last few days that I have missed while living them. Maybe you are doing the same.

The stories of heroism continue to take my breath away

Steve Farley, the leader we need

Thanks to your support, Steve was re-elected to the Arizona Senate once again in 2016.

Our state's problems are too big for any one political party to solve. We need to come together to enact solutions that work for all our citizens.

Steve knows it can be done – because it is being done, right here in Southern Arizona, by the hard-working people of our community.  People who don’t wake up every day thinking about partisanship, but instead about how to make their family’s and community’s lives just a little bit better.

We can create good jobs. We can strengthen our kids' schools and draw the line at more cuts to classroom funding. We can secure the border at the border without scapegoating anyone or endangering our economy. We can support our seniors, veterans, and middle-class families as they fight to keep their homes and their health. These should not be partisan issues.

Steve's strong legislative experience combined with real-life common sense means he has the ability to move Arizona forward. But he needs your help. Please contribute what you can to his campaign here.

If you have any questions, email me at I will answer all your emails personally.
